Born2Bond™ for audio equipment

Precision, durability and exceptional performance are key factors when looking for special adhesives for audio equipment manufacturing. That’s why Born2Bond™ Light Lock adhesives are the leading adhesive solutions in the audio industry.
The patented Born2Bond™ Light Lock technology is the ideal solution for small manual production runs or large-scale automated production lines to quickly bond multiple substrates and complex components.
Precision bonding with Born2Bond™ adhesives ensures optimal sound projection and resonance, while offering the exceptional environmental resistance required for premium audio technology.

Born2Bond™ for in-ear (over-ear) headphone applications

In-ear (over-ear) headphones contain a complex ecosystem of intricate components. Bonding each component together with Born2Bond™ adhesives ensures structural durability and high acoustic performance.

Microphone mesh assembly

The in-ear headset features a complex microphone protected by a fine mesh material. The microphone enables hands-free calling, voice commands and noise reduction. Born2Bond™ high-performance HMPUR, UV-Instant and Instant adhesives ensure the daily durability of the microphone and its mesh with exceptional ability to handle vibration and movement.

Electronic encapsulation

In-ear headphones contain sensitive electronic components such as transducers, circuitry and connectors. Electronic encapsulation seals and protects the electronics and vital components from environmental factors such as dust, moisture and physical damage. Encapsulation of in-ear headphone electronics with Born2Bond™ UV-Instant, UV-Epoxy or UV-Acrylate adhesives ensures longevity, reliability and consistent sound quality.

Magnet bonding

Magnets play a key role in the overall design of in-ear headphones, interacting with voice coils to create sound vibrations. Born2Bond™ high-performance structural adhesives HMPUR, UV-Instant, Instant and XMA ensure that the magnets are firmly and precisely positioned without interfering with magnetic properties, counteracting unwanted distortion and ensuring the safety of the headset.

Membrane bonding

The diaphragm is a lightweight, thin and flexible material responsible for acoustic amplification. The diaphragm translates electrical signals into audible sound waves that are transmitted throughout the structure. Born2Bond™ instant adhesives are chosen for their ability to form a reliable bond to the thin, delicate membrane material.

Bonding the front tweeter

A tweeter is a small driver designed to reproduce high-frequency sound waves that typically span the upper range of the audible spectrum at the front of headphones. The tweeter provides clear, detailed sound and a balanced listening experience. The use of Born2Bond™ HMPUR high-performance adhesives ensures that the tweeters resist vibration and remain stable.

Bonding active noise-canceling microphones

Noise-canceling microphones capture external ambient noise and generate anti-noise signals to eliminate unwanted sounds. When integrating active noise cancellation (ANC) technology into the structure of an in-ear (over-ear) headset, HMPUR’s Born2Bond™ high-performance adhesives provide secure bonding with minimal disruption for high-quality microphone performance.

Bonding the front housing

The front housing, commonly known as the earpiece or headset shell, is the visible outer shell of an in-ear headset that users insert into their ears. The front casing contains and surrounds all the main components. The use of Born2Bond™ HMPUR high-performance adhesives ensures that all internal components are secured within the housing, protecting the electronics from potential damage caused by external elements.

Battery Assembly

The battery is a critical component of in-ear headphones and provides the power needed to activate wireless, ANC and other included electronic functions. Using Born2Bond™ Instant, UV-Instant or low-pressure hot melt adhesive, the battery cell and its housing are bonded to the headphone case or case, securing it and preventing unnecessary movement.

Born2Bond™ for use in loudspeakers

The use of Born2Bond™ Light Lock adhesives for audio equipment improves vibration and shock resistance, ensuring maximum performance of speaker systems.

Bonding between the spider and voice coils

A spider, also known as a suspension or damper, is a flexible material that connects the voice coil to the speaker cabinet. The spider keeps the voice coil centered, allowing it to move smoothly and precisely in response to audio signals. Born2Bond™ high-performance HMPUR adhesives or Instant Adhesives ensure proper alignment, stability and performance when bonding the spider to the voice coil.

Bonding the spider to the frame

In addition to the voice coil, the spider attaches to the chassis or frame, the structure that holds the various components of the speaker together. The use of Born2Bond™ HMPUR high-performance adhesives or instant adhesives provides a strong and secure bond, ensuring that the spider remains attached throughout its life.

Connecting the diaphragm to the voice coil

The cone or diaphragm is the visible part of the speaker that moves in response to audio signals. The diaphragm generates sound waves, while the voice coil is a wire element that moves inside a magnetic gap, causing the diaphragm to vibrate and produce sound. Bonding the diaphragm and voice coil together using Born2Bond™ HMPUR high-performance adhesives, instant adhesives or XMA structural adhesives creates a strong bond that enables acoustic vibration.

Bonding between the diaphragm and dome

The dome is a smaller diaphragm designed to reproduce higher frequencies. It can be made of fabric, metal or polymer and is bonded directly to the center of the dome diaphragm. The use of Born2Bond™ High-Performance HMPUR or instant adhesives ensures that the two diaphragms can move together in response to audio signals, maintaining a strong connection.

Magnet-plate bonding

A plate or pole piece/backplane is placed behind the magnet to help shape and focus the magnetic field. The magnetic field interacts with the voice coil, causing it to move and produce sound vibrations. The magnet is firmly attached to the board using Born2Bond™ High Performance HMPUR, Instant Adhesives or XMA Structural Adhesive to ensure precise alignment and optimal interaction between the magnetic field and voice coil.

Basket-plate bonding

The basket is the structural skeleton that supports the vital internal components, while the metal plate helps shape and focus the magnetic field inside the transducer. The use of Born2Bond™ instant adhesives ensures excellent structural integrity, optimizing magnetic interaction and efficient sound production.

Loudspeaker diaphragm bonding

The loudspeaker housing, also known as the suspension or edge, is the flexible component that connects the cone to the loudspeaker enclosure, allowing controlled movement in response to audio signals. The use of Born2Bond™ instant adhesives ensures a strong bond, preventing distortion and increasing durability.

Surround speaker to cabinet connection

A strong connection between the surround speaker and the enclosure is critical for durability and longevity. The use of Born2Bond™ Instant Adhesives controls diaphragm movement, prevents distortion, improves overall sound quality and increases durability by ensuring that the enclosure assembly can withstand the stresses of vibration and movement.

Gasket bonding

A gasket is a sealing or cushioning material, usually made of foam, rubber or silicone. Gaskets create an airtight seal between components to prevent air leakage and protect against external factors. Gasketing with Born2Bond™ UV-CIPG Gasketing Adhesive can provide acoustic isolation, preventing sound leakage, interference and vibration dampening, reducing resonance between components.

Gasketing the logo

Once everything is secured and glued, it’s time to add the brand’s logo. Logos can be made from a variety of materials, usually metal, plastic, rubber or fabric. Born2Bond™ UV-Instant or Instant adhesives securely bond logos, regardless of the substrate chosen.
